A safe space to heal after birth.
Housing is where healing begins. We’ve transformed a family home into a postpartum healing & recovery space where guests can rest, heal, receive essential support, and be surrounded by community-care after birth.
Doulas United in Equity New Orleans is a maternal and infant health organization advancing health equity, for marginalized families, through safe postpartum housing, community-centered doula care, education, and comprehensive support.
“Black women with a dream of what postpartum care could look like in community are making this happen—turning our little into a whole lot.”
What We’ve Built
New Orleans has emergency shelters. It has hospitals. It has birth workers. But it does not have residential space designed specifically for postpartum recovery. DUENOLA is that missing bridge between childbirth and long-term family stability.
Our work and care:
Up-to 6 months of postpartum housing for birthing people and their infants
On-site doula care during recovery period
Mindful case management and resource navigation
Postpartum nutrition and essential needs covered
Lactation, infant care, and family planning education
Access to other stabilizing programs
This isn’t just a vision—we’re already in motion!
What It Took To Build
From a family home to a community home—this space has been rebuilt from the inside out.
Walls were torn down and uncovered hidden damage.
A fractured foundation has been repaired and stabilized.
Structural issues—from termites to unsafe systems—were addressed in real time.
A legacy of love, sacrifice, and commitment to care has been honored.
This has been more than renovation.
This is creating a safe, stable environment where postpartum guests and their infants can rest, heal, recover, and be supported with dignity.
Reality of the Build…
The work of DUENOLA and our core program, the Postpartum Healing House, are reflections of what happens when Black doulas answer the call of caring for our most marginalized communities.
With the support of trusted partners and funders, our work will transform and shift the outcomes for postpartum families of New Orleans!
